About this practice session

This page turns the YouTube video “A1 English Listening Practice - Jobs” into an English shadowing exercise. The recording is split into 86 short sentences that you can play one at a time, repeat after the speaker and record your own version for automatic pronunciation scoring.

13. 0:37 part-time job a part-time job is a job
14. 0:41 where you work fewer hours I have
15. 0:44 part-time jobs when I was younger I
16. 0:47 worked part-time at a clothing store at
17. 0:50 a restaurant and at my university many
18. 0:54 students have part-time jobs they study
19. 0:58 in the morning and work in the evening I
20. 1:01 did this when I was a student in the
21. 1:04 u.s. many teenagers get a job when
22. 1:08 they're in high school I got my first
23. 1:11 job when I was 17 I was in my last year
24. 1:15 of high school
25. 1:16 I worked at a clothing store called
26. 1:19 Hollister I didn't like that job but I
27. 1:23 liked earning money some of my
28. 1:26 classmates worked at fast-food
29. 1:28 restaurants like McDonald's I also had a
30. 1:32 part-time job when I was in college when
31. 1:36 I was in college I worked at the
32. 1:38 university's dining hall a dining hall
33. 1:42 is the place on a university campus
34. 1:45 where students eat I worked as a cook
35. 1:48 and a dishwasher at my dining hall I
36. 1:52 didn't like washing dishes
37. 1:54 I liked cooking more than dishwashing
38. 1:57 how about you have you ever had a

40. 2:03 full-time jobs in the US people who have
41. 2:07 full-time jobs usually work 40 hours

52. 2:46 I'm a teacher there are many good jobs
53. 2:49 in the US for people who don't have
54. 2:51 degrees for example you can be an
55. 2:54 electrician a plumber a truck driver or
56. 2:58 many other things people who have these
57. 3:01 jobs make good money in the u.s. most
58. 3:05 salaries in America are high compared to
59. 3:08 other countries
60. 3:10 Americans make a lot of money but they
61. 3:13 have to spend a lot of money
62. 3:15 life is very expensive in the u.s. the
63. 3:19 normal schedule for full-time jobs is
64. 3:22 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the US
65. 3:26 however some people start work earlier
66. 3:29 like at 8:00 a.m.
67. 3:31 and other people and later like at 6:00
68. 3:35 p.m. I start work pretty early at 7:30
69. 3:39 a.m. but I also finished early at 4:30
70. 3:43 p.m.
71. 3:43 I prefer starting work early and
72. 3:46 finishing work early most people work
73. 3:49 Monday to Friday and they have weekends
74. 3:52 off most people don't like working on
75. 3:56 the weekends I work in the morning on
76. 3:59 Saturdays but I have Sundays off I never
