About ShadowEcho
What ShadowEcho does
ShadowEcho is a language-learning tool built around one technique: shadowing. You paste the link of a YouTube video that has subtitles, and ShadowEcho splits it into short, sentence-sized segments. For each segment you can listen to the original speaker, record your own voice, and get automatic feedback on how close your pronunciation was.
Instead of studying from artificial textbook recordings, you practise with real speech: interviews, talks, vlogs, news and lessons made by native speakers. You choose material you actually find interesting, which makes it much easier to keep practising every day.
Why we built it
Most pronunciation problems are not about knowing the words; they are about rhythm, stress and intonation, things that are hard to notice in your own speech. Shadowing closes that gap by letting you compare yourself to a native speaker immediately, one sentence at a time. We wanted a free, simple tool that makes this routine accessible without special software or a teacher in the room.
