You Don’t Need to Be Ready to Start | A1 English Shadowing

About this practice session

This page turns the YouTube video “You Don’t Need to Be Ready to Start | A1 English Shadowing” into an English shadowing exercise. The recording is split into 204 short sentences that you can play one at a time, repeat after the speaker and record your own version for automatic pronunciation scoring.

The speaker talks at about 138 words per minute, a moderate pace, with an average of 7.1 words per sentence. That makes it suitable for intermediate learners who want natural, everyday speech.

How to practise with this video

  1. Play the first sentence and listen while reading the transcript. Notice the stress, the pauses and where the intonation rises or falls.
  2. Replay it and speak along with the speaker, copying the rhythm rather than reading word by word.
  3. Record yourself straight after the original. ShadowEcho scores each word for accuracy, fluency and completeness.
  4. Compare your recording with the original, retry the words marked in red, then move on to the next sentence.
  5. Practise 10–15 minutes a day. Coming back to the same video after a few days is an easy way to measure progress.

Transcript (English)

  1. Start before you are ready. This idea
  2. sounds simple, but it can change your
  3. life. Many people wait for the perfect
  4. time. They wait until they feel strong,
  5. smart, and confident. They think,
  6. "I will start when I am ready."
  7. But the truth is that time may never
  8. come. You may never feel fully ready.
  9. There is always something missing. Maybe
  10. you think you do not have enough time.
  11. Maybe you think you are not good enough.
  12. Maybe you feel afraid. These feelings
  13. are normal. Everyone feels this way at
  14. some point. But if you always wait, you
  15. will stay in the same place. Your life
  16. will not move forward. You will only
  17. watch others grow while you stay still.
  18. When you start before you are ready, you
  19. take a small step. It does not have to
  20. be big. It can be very small. Maybe you
  21. want to learn English. You can start by
  22. reading one simple sentence. Maybe you
  23. want to make a video. You can start by
  24. recording one short clip. Maybe you want
  25. to exercise. You can start with 5
  26. minutes. The first step is always the
  27. hardest. Your heart may beat fast. Your
  28. hands may shake. Your mind may say,
  29. "Stop. You are not ready."
  30. But if you keep going, something will
  31. change. You will feel a little stronger.
  32. You will feel a little more brave. And
  33. that small step will become the start of
  34. something bigger. People often think
  35. that confidence comes first. They think,
  36. "When I feel confident, I will act."
  37. But this is not true. Confidence comes
  38. after action. When you do something
  39. again and again, you start to feel more
  40. comfortable. You make mistakes, but you
  41. learn from them. You see that you can do
  42. more than you thought. Slowly, your fear
  43. becomes smaller. Slowly, your confidence
  44. grows. If you wait for confidence before
  45. you start, you may wait forever. But if
  46. you act first, confidence will follow
  47. you. Mistakes are also very important.
  48. Many people are afraid of mistakes. They
  49. want everything to be perfect, but
  50. perfection is not real. When you try
  51. something new, you will make mistakes.
  52. This is normal. This is how you learn. A
  53. child does not walk perfectly the first
  54. time. A child falls many times. But the
  55. child keeps trying. And one day, the
  56. child can walk, then run, then jump. If
  57. the child was afraid to fall, the child
  58. would never learn to walk. In the same
  59. way, you must accept mistakes. They are
  60. not your enemy. They are your teacher.
  61. Starting early also helps you learn
  62. faster. When you begin, you get real
  63. experience. You see what works and what
  64. does not work. You understand your
  65. problem better. You can change your plan
  66. and improve. If you only think and plan,
  67. you stay in your head. You do not see
  68. the real world. You do not grow. Action
  69. gives you real lessons. And these
  70. lessons are very valuable. They help you
  71. become better every day. Sometimes,
  72. people compare themselves to others.
  73. They see someone who is very good. They
  74. think, "I can never be like that." But
  75. they forget something important. That
  76. person also started at zero. That person
  77. was also a beginner. That person also
  78. made many mistakes. You only see their
  79. success now. You do not see their past.
  80. So, do not compare your beginning to
  81. someone else's middle or end. Focus on
  82. your own path. Focus on your own
  83. progress. Every small step is important.
  84. There is also another problem. Many
  85. people want to know everything before
  86. they start. They want the perfect plan.
  87. They want all the answers. But life does
  88. not work like that. You cannot know
  89. everything in the beginning. Some things
  90. become clear only when you move forward.
  91. It is like walking in the dark small
  92. light. You cannot see the whole road,
  93. but you can see the next step. And that
  94. is enough. When you take that step, you
  95. will see the next one. Step by step, you
  96. will reach your goal. Fear is a big
  97. reason why people do not start. Fear of
  98. failure.
  99. Fear of judgment.
  100. Fear of the unknown. These fears are
  101. strong, but they are not always true.
  102. Your mind may create many bad stories.
  103. It may say, "People will laugh at you."
  104. It may say, "You will fail."
  105. But often, these things do not happen.
  106. And even if they do, it is not the end.
  107. You can try again. You can learn and
  108. improve. Fear becomes smaller when you
  109. face it. But it becomes bigger when you
  110. run away from it. Starting before you
  111. are ready also builds discipline.
  112. Discipline means you do something even
  113. when you do not feel like it. It means
  114. you take action even when it is hard.
  115. This is very powerful because in life,
  116. you will not always feel motivated. Some
  117. days, you will feel tired. Some days,
  118. you will feel lazy. If you only act when
  119. you feel good, you will not go far. But
  120. if you have discipline, you will keep
  121. going. And this will help you reach your
  122. goals. Another good thing about starting
  123. early is that you create momentum.
  124. Momentum is like a small ball that
  125. starts to roll. At first, it moves
  126. slowly. But as it goes, it becomes
  127. faster and stronger. The same is true
  128. for your actions. When you take one
  129. step, it becomes easier to take the next
  130. step. You build a habit. You feel
  131. progress. And this makes you want to
  132. continue. But if you never start, there
  133. is no movement. There is no energy. You
  134. may ask, "What if I fail?"
  135. This is a common question. But failure
  136. is not the opposite of success. It is
  137. part of success. Every successful person
  138. has failed many times. Failure shows you
  139. what does not work. It teaches you
  140. valuable lessons. It makes you stronger.
  141. It helps you grow. So, do not be afraid
  142. of failure. Be afraid of not trying
  143. because if you do not try, you will
  144. never know what you can do. Time is also
  145. very important. Time does not wait for
  146. you. Every day, you have 24 hours.
  147. How you use your time will shape your
  148. future. If you wait too long, you may
  149. lose many chances. But if you start now,
  150. even with small steps, you use your time
  151. well. You invest in yourself. You build
  152. your future little by little. One day,
  153. you will look back and feel proud. You
  154. will see how far you have come.
  155. Sometimes, the idea of starting can feel
  156. very big. It can feel heavy. But you can
  157. make it simple. Do not think about the
  158. whole journey. Just think about the next
  159. step. Ask yourself, "What is one small
  160. thing I can do today?"
  161. Then do it. It can be very small, but it
  162. is enough. Small actions done every day
  163. can create big change over time. You
  164. also do not need to be perfect. You just
  165. need to begin. Many great things in the
  166. world started in a simple way. A small
  167. idea. A simple action. No one is perfect
  168. at the beginning. Everyone learns along
  169. the way. So, give yourself permission to
  170. be a beginner. It is okay to be slow. It
  171. is okay to not know everything. What
  172. matters is that you move forward.
  173. Support from others can also help. You
  174. can talk to friends. You can learn from
  175. people who have more experience. You can
  176. watch, listen, and read. But remember,
  177. learning is not enough. You must also
  178. act. Knowledge without action does not
  179. change your life. Action turns knowledge
  180. into real results. Sometimes, you may
  181. feel stuck. You may feel like you are
  182. not improving. This is normal. Progress
  183. is not always fast. Sometimes, it is
  184. slow. Sometimes, it is hard to see. But
  185. if you keep going, you will improve.
  186. Trust the process. Trust your effort.
  187. Every step you take is building
  188. something inside you. Starting before
  189. where are ready is not easy. It takes
  190. courage. It takes effort, but it is
  191. worth it because it helps you grow. It
  192. helps you learn. It helps you become a
  193. better version of yourself. When you
  194. start, you open new doors. You create
  195. new chances. You change your story. So,
  196. do not wait for the perfect time. Do not
  197. wait until you feel ready. That day may
  198. never come. Start now. Start small.
  199. Start where you are. Use what you have.
  200. Take one step, then another. Keep going,
